TunesFest 2024 - The Playlist
The 23rd Annual TunesFest is in the books. It was a peak experience by all accounts. Maybe the best one ever. So what is this thing?
TunesFest is an audiophile music appreciation night attended by 6(ish) good friends who all reside in the Seattle area. The event has been going on since the year 2000 and has it's roots even earlier when we were playing each other great songs on our parents stereo.
A few rules:
- Host duties rotate every year and it is generally expected that you have some new improvement to your stereo system to warrant hosting.
- Attendees curate a playlist of audiophile-worthy songs to play for the rest of the group.
- No repeats. We maintain a list of ~700+ songs that have been played in past TunesFests. A repeat will get a flag and you will be stopped mid-play.
- Goal - play songs from artists that no one has heard of, or at least tracks no one has heard before. You need to impress and create a jaw-dropping experience for the attendees.
- It's competitive. Good songs will be praised. Crap songs will get the appropriate feedback ("You can't be serious with that trash?!").
I was the host this year, and the system at play in my living room deserves it's own blog post. It was a Wilson and D'Agostino system loaned to us by Definitive Audio (first time we have a sponsor!) I will post about that in the next few days.
This is about what got played. Here is the complete list of songs from the evening. If you are looking for great system-tester audiophile tracks, this is a good place to start.
Strap on the headphones, or sit in the sweet spot, and take a listen.
